A Commitment to the Land Since 2001: A Repair Philosophy Combining Scientific Validation and Taiwan's Endemic Plants

About JARIO

Some stories are born from business plans, while others come from heritage. The starting point of JARIO begins with a single Hibiscus taiwanensis plant.

As a child, I learned about Hibiscus taiwanensis from my grandfather. To many people, it is just a plant growing in the land; but in the eyes of elders, it is a form of wisdom passed down through generations, and a valuable resource that has accompanied people's lives for many years. As I grew older, I began to ask myself: if this plant is truly so precious, why do so few people know about it? In 2005, I founded Hibiscus International (the predecessor of HERCET biotech ) and formally began research on Hibiscus taiwanensis. At that time, there was very little information available for reference, and public understanding of native plants was still limited. Many people did not understand why so much time and resources should be spent studying a plant that almost no one paid attention to. But the deeper I went, the more I believed it deserved to be seen.

From establishing cultivation environments, developing raw material cultivation, and advancing extraction technology, to efficacy validation and product application, every step had to be explored from scratch. It took us five years to complete the first phase of productization, and during that process we gradually built our own research foundation. Years later, that persistence bore fruit. Hibiscus taiwanensis not only completed product application research, but was also successfully included in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI), allowing this plant from the land of Taiwan to officially gain a status to enter the global market. And JARIO was born within this journey.

J - Journey

The Path of Exploration

Looking back on more than twenty years of this journey, what stands out most has never been the outcome, but the process itself. In the early days of the business, the greatest challenge was funding.

When the market did not yet recognize Hibiscus taiwanensis, every step—research funding, equipment investment, product development—carried real risk. Many believed the path was too slow, too difficult. But botanical research has never been something that can be rushed.

In order to find the right environment for cultivating Hibiscus taiwanensis, we conducted planting trials again and again; to preserve the plant’s characteristics, we continuously refined our extraction methods; to build a complete body of data, we spent vast amounts of time on validation and documentation. It has been a long journey. And it is precisely this journey that has given us a deeper understanding of Hibiscus taiwanensis.

A - Authenticity

The Essence of Truth

Hibiscus taiwanensis has never needed to be deliberately packaged. It grows between the land with its own rhythm and its own nature.

During product development, we often face choices. How do we preserve the plant’s original active compounds? And how do we make the product better suited to modern daily use? In particular, with extraction technology, we are constantly seeking balance.

Because preserving active ingredients and delivering a refined user experience often require repeated adjustment and validation. Authenticity is not only about staying true to the plant itself, but also about staying true to every result derived from research.

R - Research

Driven by Discovery

Research has been the most important core of our journey. From the beginning of our Hibiscus taiwanensis research, it took us five years to truly complete the first step toward productization.

At that time, Hibiscus taiwanensis had not yet been included in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI), which meant it was difficult for it to be recognized and used in the global market. Faced with skepticism and limitations, we chose to continue investing in research.

Through long-term accumulation of data, testing, and validation, we eventually succeeded in having Hibiscus taiwanensis officially registered in the INCI system. This is not only a research achievement, but also an important step forward for plant research in Taiwan.

I - Integrity

Unwavering Principles

Trust does not come from a single promise. It is built through long-term, sustained commitment.

From raw material selection and cultivation management to extraction processes and quality verification, every step must stand up to scrutiny. We believe that what cannot be seen is often more important than what can be seen.

That is why, over the years, we have consistently relied on research data as our foundation and quality standards as our benchmark, carrying out each step with care and integrity. Because only in this way can a product truly earn trust.

O - Origin

Return to the Source

No matter how far we go, we never forget where it all began. It started with a legacy passed down from our grandfather. And with a plant that has been by our side for more than twenty years.

From being little known to gaining international recognition; from laboratory research to becoming the core ingredient of our brand; from a local plant to one that is now recognized by more people. Taiwan Endemic Flora - Hibiscus taiwanensis has grown alongside us every step of the way.

Through continuous research and innovation, we hope to help more people rediscover the value of native plants. This is not only the origin of our brand. It is also the path that JARIO has remained committed to from the very beginning.

The future of JARIO

When Hibiscus taiwanensis gradually gained market attention, we began to see more and more people recognizing the value of research on native plants. However, we understand that what truly matters is never following trends, but continuing to deepen our roots. That is why we founded JARIO.

We hope to use the power of our brand to safeguard the research achievements accumulated over many years, and to help more people see the precious plant resources from the land of Taiwan. In the future, we will continue to build on Hibiscus taiwanensis research, combining scientific validation with product development to explore more possibilities of native plants. Because we believe that truly worthy values of inheritance require time to accumulate, and deserve to be seen by the world.
