In 2005, the first-generation Hibiscus taiwanensis product launched as "Gel Essence." When Hibiscus International (formerly HERCET Biotechnology) was founded in 2001, research on Hibiscus taiwanensis was scarce globally. Few studies appeared in journals or reports, with no official recognition of its safety or efficacy. The industry landscape was barren.
Undeterred, the company invested heavily in cultivating and researching Taiwan endemic Flora (Hibiscus taiwanensis Hu). Collaborating with institutions and academia, we forged partnerships and joined the Council of Agriculture's incubation center. These efforts paved the way for international recognition, culminating in Hibiscus taiwanensis' inclusion in the U.S. PCPC INCI, the EU CosIng, and the American Chemical Society (CAS). After two decades, we transformed a desert into an oasis, placing Hibiscus taiwanensis on the global stage.
